One of the first things I hear from couples before a session, whether it’s a wedding, engagement, or just because, is: “We’re awkward in photos” or “We don’t know how to pose.”
Here’s the truth: you don’t need to.
That’s not your job. My role is to guide you in a way that feels natural, fun, and completely true to who you are. Instead of focusing on stiff poses, I use couples photography posing prompts to create real moments and genuine connection.

Traditional posing can feel uncomfortable and forced. When you’re thinking about where your hands should go or if you’re standing the “right” way, it takes you out of the moment.
That’s why I take a different approach.
Rather than placing you into exact positions, I guide you through simple actions and interactions. This allows you to relax, move naturally, and actually enjoy your time together. As a result, your photos feel authentic instead of staged.
Movement plays a huge role in creating images that feel alive.
When you’re walking, laughing, spinning, or just holding each other, you stop overthinking and start being present. Because of this, your photos become more candid, more emotional, and more reflective of your relationship.
I’m always guiding you, so you never feel unsure, but I’m also giving you space to just be together.
Here are a few of my favorite prompts that consistently bring out real connection:
1. The Playful Kiss Challenge
Get close, hold her by the hips, and try to give her kisses while she playfully avoids you. This one always turns into laughter and genuine reactions.

2. The Butt Lift
Pick her up just below the hips and sway back and forth while she loosely wraps her arms around you. It feels natural, fun, and a little romantic all at once.

3. Dancing Together
Start with a slow dance, then add a spin. Most couples forget the camera is even there during this one. Give her a twirl and pull her back into you. It adds movement and keeps things feeling effortless.

4. Pull In & Whisper
Pull her in close and whisper your grocery list in a “sexy” voice. It sounds silly, but it always gets real smiles and laughter.

5. The Airplane Swoop
Stand with her in front, interlock your fingers, and stretch your arms out like an airplane. Then pull her into a big hug and kiss her temple for a soft, intimate finish.

6. The Forehead Touch
Come in close, touch foreheads, and take a quiet moment together. It creates those soft, emotional images.

7. The Bear Hug Spin
Wrap her up in a big bear hug, lift slightly, and spin her around. It’s playful, full of energy, and always brings out genuine joy.

8. Catch, Pick Up & Spin
He stands a little ways behind her, runs up, and swoops her up for a spin. This can be done with her staying still, or for a more playful feel, he physically catches her as she leans back into the spin. It’s fun, dynamic, and always creates energy in the photos.

9. The “Drunk Walk” Hip Hits
Walk toward me holding hands like you’re a little tipsy. Then pull slightly away from each other while still holding hands, and finally pull back into each other with playful little hip hits. It’s silly, fun, and full of connection.

This is something I always remind my couples: you are not expected to know how to pose.
I guide you every step of the way, using prompts that feel easy and natural. I also adjust based on your comfort level and your dynamic as a couple. Whether you’re more playful or more laid-back, your session is tailored to you.
Of course, I’m always happy to recreate those Pinterest-inspired shots you love. However, I also focus on capturing the in-between moments – the ones filled with laughter, movement, and emotion.
Those are the images that bring you right back to how it felt in that moment.
Because at the end of the day, your photos shouldn’t just look beautiful – they should feel like something.
If you’re looking for a photographer who will guide you, keep things relaxed, and capture your connection in a genuine way, I would love to chat with you. Let’s create something that feels like you.
